Dortmund by Dahlia Owusu

As someone who has lived in a variety of places throughout my life, I’ve always considered myself to have an atypical relationship to the terms place and home. I think growing up with a migrant background urged me to consider those terms and their meaning in different ways to other people. During lockdown I returned to my home town of Dortmund in the Ruhr area of West Germany, where I produced this short film reflecting on the place where I now live, informed by the work of the geographer Doreen Massey, that reveals life in this former industrial steel city.
